RFP Title: Request for Proposal for the Supply of Beehives, Associated Equipment, Apiary Construction, and Capacity Building for Honey Enterprise Management 

Kenya Wildlife Conservancies Association (KWCA) invites Request for Proposal (RFP) from eligible and qualified service providers for the supply of 500 beehives, associated equipment, construction of an apiary containing at least 100 hives at site level, and capacity building for communities on the management of honey enterprises. The purpose of this RFP is to identify qualified service providers who can deliver quality and sustainable solutions for the outlined scope of Service. 

 

SECTION 2: ABOUT KWCA 

Kenya Wildlife Conservancies Association (KWCA) is a national organization dedicated to supporting and strengthening community-led wildlife conservation efforts in Kenya. KWCA works closely with community and private conservancies, landscape associations, and local stakeholders to ensure sustainable wildlife conservation and the well-being of local communities. 

 

SECTION 3: ABOUT THE PROJECT 

KWCA is implementing Component 3 of the GEF 6-funded project titled “Combatting Poaching and Illegal Wildlife Trafficking in Kenya through an Integrated Approach.” This component focuses on strengthening community wildlife conservancies within the Tsavo and Mara ecosystems by piloting revenue-generating options that align with local livelihoods and conservation objectives. As part of this effort, KWCA is seeking to support women and youth-led livelihood enterprises in five (5) conservancies in the Mara and Tsavo landscapes through the provision of value chain equipment and services. 

 

SECTION 4: SCOPE OF SERVICE

Component  Details 
Supply of Beehives and Equipment  Provide 500 high-quality beehives (Langstroth & Modern log hive), designed to optimize honey production and bee health. Supply includes a full range of essential honey production equipment: smokers for handling bees safely, hive tools for maintenance, swarm lure, catcher box, protective bee suits, honey extractors to streamline harvesting, and durable storage buckets for processed honey. 
Apiary Construction  Establish a well-designed apiary at the designated sites, accommodating at most 100 beehives per apiary. Ensure that the apiary setup is efficient, accessible, and environmentally sustainable. This includes providing technical specifications, securing necessary materials, and ensuring proper layout and construction for optimal functionality. 
Capacity Building Services  Train women and youth groups in beekeeping best practices, covering hive management, maintenance, and health monitoring. Conduct hands-on sessions in honey harvesting, processing, and quality control. Equip participants with enterprise management skills to ensure sustainability. Training materials and on-site demonstrations will be provided for practical learning and linkages to available markets. 
Delivery and Installation  Ensure timely delivery of all beehives and associated equipment to the project sites. Provide on-site supervision and technical support during the installation of the apiary to ensure proper setup and functionality. 

 

SECTION 5: ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS 

Interested service providers must meet the following requirements: 

1. Valid Certificate of Incorporation/Business Registration. 

2. Valid Tax Compliance Certificate from KRA. 

3. Evidence of experience in similar projects (attach at least three references). 

4. A preliminary proposal including: o Technical specifications of the beehives and equipment. 

o High-level timeline for delivery, construction, and capacity building. 

o Work approach and methodology. 

5. Demonstrated financial capacity to undertake the project. 

6. Compliance with legal and regulatory requirements relevant to beekeeping and enterprise development. 

 

SECTION 6: SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS 

Interested firms or individuals are requested to submit: 

1. Application outlining the ability to undertake the services, including capacity and relevant experience. 

2. Company profile and statutory documents (Certificate of Incorporation, Tax Compliance Certificate, etc.). 

3. A high-level work plan for execution of the scope of work. 

4. Contacts of at least three references for similar assignments.
